A Sea of Stories, Words and Picture with Keresley Newlands Primary Academy
We love Words and Pictures here at Warwickshire Schools Library Service and were lucky enough to spend a whole day creating a sea of stories with Kate's Storytree and the children at Keresley Newlands Primary Academy (See some pictures below)
'We created a group 'Sea of Words' which began which Year 5 starting on a blank canvas. We shared stories outside and talked about any stories and words and pictures that they like. We invited them to draw and write as they felt. I told a story whilst Hannah illustrated ... it was hard to hold the children back ... so we didn't!
We had a story walk where the children talked about the words and pictures that they noticed. It grew during the day as the Year 1 and Year 3 children added to and overlapped their ideas. Year 5 and Year 3 made boats for the sea.
The children were very engaged and engaging throughout. Confident giving ideas and contributing to the joint story. The work was very positive, lots of the children were giving compliments about each other's work, respecting each others ideas and space. It was wonderful to work with them' Kate's Storytree
