Warwickshire Secondary Book Award 2022!

We are delighted to reveal the shortlist for the Warwickshire Secondary Book Award 2022 (#WSBA 2022)! This shortlist was chosen by our experienced team with the expert help of our secondary school Librarians!

Brian Conaghan: Cardboard Cowboys
Liz Kessler: When the World was Ours
Kate Malinder: Asking for a Friend
Geraldine McCaughrean: The Supreme Lie
Padraig Kenny: The Monsters of Rookhaven
Alex Wheatle: The Humiliations of Welton Blake

We ask pupils to read six of the most exciting books published during the last year and vote for their favourite. The winner must simply be “a page-turner that pupils would highly recommend to others”.

The majority of Warwickshire’s Secondary schools participate each year in the Book Award, seeing it as a fantastic opportunity for students to enjoy reading and discussion together. Being part of a countywide initiative offers real empowerment to the Year 7 and 8 students taking part. Schools regularly report students developing a greater sense of confidence and self-esteem through the Award.

Groups will have until mid March to read and vote on the books. We hope that all schools will be able to attend the Awards Ceremony on Thursday 24th March (10am-12.30pm). We would love to be able to host this in person in 2021 and we have booked the Bridge House Theatre, Warwick. We will invite the shortlisted authors to the ceremony so students will be able to meet some of the authors and hear them talk, which is always inspiring and engaging for students!  However, if circumstances change and Covid restrictions do not allow this, we plan to host a live virtual ceremony on the same date.

We would like to thank Warwick Books and all the shortlisted authors and publishers for supporting our Book Awards.
